Data protection and freedom of information.

As you will no doubt be aware, there are various laws regarding the keeping and use of personal data. It is likely that if you have any kind of system such as this already, or if you want to use this, you will be a 'data controller'. This places various obligations on you, and what you do with the information you hold. This system does not allow you to do anything which may be frowned upon by the regulations (for example, reporting of attendance levels is anonymous), and the system uses appropriate levels of security to prevent either accidental access to your data by unauthorised users, and also to reduce the risk of hackers breaking into it. Because no sensitive data is held about your users (e.g. credit card numbers), we believe the level of security is appropriate, as long as you: restrict access to authorised staff; keep passwords secret; and that staff understand the obligations and principles behind data protection.
