In 2024 Sheffield Advocacy Hub - a partnership led by Citizens Advice Sheffield - won a seven year advocacy contract.

This allowed them to implement significant digital and organisational changes.

Their story offers a series of valuable lessons for charities planning or implementing change programmes.

What's inside?

This action research project was carried out by Nick Scott and commissioned by Lamplight. Nick reviewed the process as it developed over the year, and carried out in-depth interviews with key participants.

This short e-book tells the story of the project and picks out key lessons for smaller charities undertaking change, as well as for funders and commissioners.

Their story demonstrates how embracing change can build a charity’s capability and help it deliver on its mission. Throughout the first year of their change process, they’ve shown that successful change doesn’t happen by accident – it needs deliberate choice, effective structures, and a clear focus on purpose.

Most of all, change is about people. People over perfection. Service over systems.

Learn from the flexible and human-centred approach Citizens Advice Sheffield took to reconfigure advocacy services in Sheffield.
