Lamplight may go offline for maintenance 21 Oct 2026 from 15:00 GMT.

We have been notified of an urgent update that will be required this afternoon (21st October 2026), from 15:00 BST. The notification is available from the NCSC: Critical security issue affecting PHP | National Cyber Security Centre There is currently limited information about the nature of the updates that will be required.

We will avoid disruption if possible but until we have more details we do not know whether this will be possible. It is possible that we will have to take Lamplight offline to carry out the emergency updates or put other protections in place.

To be clear, the updates aren’t to Lamplight itself, but some of the software that Lamplight – and indeed much of the internet – uses. 

So you may also need to check your own website – it may well use php – and check whether you need to do anything to update it this afternoon.

We will obviously do all we can to minimise this but will prioritise confidentiality and security. We’re sorry about the short notice: the notice has only just been announced.
